Thinking about a new printer

I know nothing about printers. My printer is very old and was a gift and I feel like every time I print something on it, I need to purchase a new ink cartridge. Any suggestions for a new printer? Are they any better? Will I still be buying a new black in cartridge every 15 pages?

Thanks in advance.

Solution
The problem with inexpensive printers, I have found, is that if you only use them occasionally, the printheads dry out and become unusable. Then the ink costs nearly as much as the printer to replace. Most of the time I end up tossing the printer and buying another.

If, as you say, you do mostly school work in black and white, then you might consider a laser printer. The initial cost is much greater, but worth it if you do a lot of printing. Also the toner is much more to to replace than an inkjet. Also, they are usually monochromatic.

My belief is that printers are designed to sell ink and toner, so it seems you never.

Just my opinion in any case.

Totally agree with previous comments - - - in inkjet printer is not what you should be considering if it's only going to be used occasionally. They need to be used at least every three or four days so that fresh ink keeps circulating instead of being stood idle and the ink drying out.
