Thinking About Buying a SSD

I have a 1TB HDD at the moment that came with my PC. Everything I have is installed on it; OS, games, other bits/bobs, all of it.

So I was wondering if I bought a SSD if I would need to install windows 7 on it as well, or if I could just install the few games/whatever else I want to on there and run them off of it to make them load faster and such?

Forgive me, a bit of a scrub when it comes to SSDs and such as I've never had one.

Absolutely. Just hooking it up and assigning it a letter will let you install games and software on it.

I'd recommend installing your OS on there, though. It's a bit of a process, but your OS is much peppier on an SSD.

You would get the most benefit from an SSD by putting the OS on it and using it for the boot drive, then frequently used programs depending on the size you get..

Thank you both, another question since you both recommend it now; Can I have the OS installed on both drives and just boot it from the SSD while still having my settings from the HDD? I assume not, but again; I'm a newbie.

Have 2 copies of Windows in the same system can cause conflicts and instability.

You can create an image of your hard drive to put on your new SSD (Macrium or Acronis), but I wouldn't recommend it. Using an image from an HDD on an SSD causes the SSD to not perform to it's full potential.
