hello everyone. i have a pc with spes intel i5 14600kf, msi z690 tomahawk ddr4 motherboard, rtx 4070 ti, 32 gb ddr4 3200 mhz ram. Right now i am thinking about upgrading my platform from ddr4 to ddr5, going to upgrade my motherboard from a z690 to z790, so ill be keeping the same processor mentioned above, as i feel like its a capable processor for gaming. Am i making a right move or should i just wait and upgrade my whole platform. I am a bit confused about this decision and would love the help.

thank you

it´s not worth the time and money :
such memory upgrade would give you almost zero performance boost in gaming .
your processor is still one of the best gaming CPUs out there .
as it stands there is no reasonable upgrade path on your current platform and
switching to AM5 makes little sense at the moment considering how much money it would cost you
to get B850 motherboard 9800X3D processor and 32/64gb of DDR5 memory
(and it would still give you barely 10% more cpu performance in gaming at 1440p or 4K -
at those resolutions your graphics card would be more of a limiting factor anyways) ...

DDR4 and DDR5 performance is comparable.
Outside of integrated graphics, faster speed ram gets you very little.

In what way is your current system not doing the job?

Upgrades to I7 and I9 buys you more processing threads which is good for batch apps, but not so much for gaming.
i9-14900K would give you some gaming boost.
