Looking at upgrading to ryzen 5 3600 for better gaming.I play at 1080p but also vr with HTC vive. Wondering what you guys would recommend for motherboard and ram to go with 3600, or other cpu ideas if you think it would be better. Looking to spend somewhere around 300 but less than 400.

Solution
I would wait a month or so before getting Ryzen 3000, as your current rig is pretty decent still. There's still growing pains with Ryzen 3000 ATM, unstable BIOS's specifically causing some issues.

Once a month passes, I suggest getting a Ryzen 5 3600 with a decent board like the B450 Tomahawk.

You will have to buy new ram as well to get on a newer gen.
Your cpu isn't really bottlenecking the system.
You might see a small fps increase.
Are you running a 144hz monitor or you trying to play eye candy games on ultra?

I'd consider looking at what you can get for your whole tower and then see what you can buy.

Playing games at ultra and prob in future playing as close to 4k as I can. Also trying to upgrade for some headroom in vr, I know that I need ram also.

I would definitely wait a few months until the motherboard manufacturers get the bugs worked out of the BIOS.

I have a R5 2600 OC'd that performs as well as or even better than a stock 2600x and it is 100% satble.
So I personally won't even consider upgrading (most likely to a 3700x) until sometime next year.

Yea that's one of the reasons I didn't buy it immediately. Then I started looking at used 8600k with motherboard and such but they ended up with cooler and everything generally being around the same price as new 3600 setup.
