Thinking of Preordering AMD RYZEN??

I have found a place in the UK which has started preorders for the new RYZEN and just want to know if this would be a good build.

-AMD Ryzen 7 Eight Core 1700X 3.80GHz (Socket AM4) Processor
-Asus Prime B350-Plus AMD B350 (Socket AM4) DDR4 ATX Motherboard

well, we don't really know how it will perform in games so unless you're willing to be a benchmarker like I am we can't really recommend it yet.

They only used very specific games to benchmark it for their marketing so we'll have to wait for reviewers to get their hands on it and give a more comprehensive and fair overview.

What are you planning on doing with it, i would recommend you wait to see an actual benchmark. Unless it is highly multi threaded application, it may be far better to go with current i5/i7 build. We just don't know yet. AMD CPU's have been over promising and under performing for a decade, until we have hard data that Ryzen is the new hotness I would be patient.

About all I can say is that those look like compatible parts. Until a good mix of independent third-party reviews come out, it's tough to say how relatively 'good' it is to the other Ryzen configurations.

I do know that some press kits came paired with X370 boards and 3000MHz RAM, so those may be a better pairing with an X chip.....but is impossible to say right now what the difference in real-would performance would be for that versus what you have listed.

I was thinking about pre-ordering a Ryzen CPU too, but then in time I decided against it since it didn't make sense to pre-order it twice. I would go with a higher clock memory and just let it down-clock if it doesn't support it.

I would wait for the real reviews to show up. Early benches from leaks and AMD themselves look very good, but I'd want a more thorough review before making an expensive purchase like this. Everything so far points to Ryzen being a fantastic price/performance platform for a real comeback for AMD. Been over a decade now since the "CPU Wars", lol. Before the Intel Core 2 Duo series came out, Athlon 64 FXs were top notch for a few years. They were premium prices too Still, back to the topic, it does seem a bit odd to me for AMD to have a preorders up before reviews. Guess we'll all know soon enough.
