Thinking of upgrading from 1080p to 1440p. How will doing so affect the FOV in games?

I'm debating upgrading from a 1080p 60hz TN monitor to a 1440p 144hz IPS monitor, and one of my main concerns is over whether I actually want more resolution in the monitor space I have. Won't increasing the resolution simply increase my FOV in games? I feel like I can already see enough of my periphery as it is. Does anyone have experience moving from 1080p to 1440p? Did the move make a positive difference in games?

I went from a 1080P display to a 1440.... You really won't notice a huge difference in your games except for one thing.. font sizes. Text will appear slightly smaller I noticed and depending on your GPU, you can expect a 10-15 FPS drop in your games, which isn't that much of a deal.

Another alternative for you to consider is.. if you have the desktop space why not get an Ultra Widescreen Monitor... like 34". That will have a huge impact on your games.
I went from 1080p 60hz TN monitor to a 1440p 144hz IPS and the difference was MASSIVE. It doesn't improve FOV but it does improve detail and it is a must for fast action gaming. I have absolutely 0 regrets in getting it. Even at the price, it is worth it, and I plan to keep it for 5 years. But keep in mind, you will need at least a 1070 to take advantage of the new monitor.

1080p to 1440p : quite a massive upgrade, although you will not notice it much on all games.
60Hz to 144Hz: a massive jump.
No GSync/FreeSync to with GSync/FreeSync: again a massive jump.
Moving from TN to IPS: a massive jump.

I upgraded from Dell U2412M to 1440p 144Hz GSync XB270HU in April 2015.
Assuming you are keeping your PC as it is, moving to 1440p from 1080 will make you loose about 30-40% of your current fps without the 60 fps cap turned on(game dependent).

I also considered getting 3440x1440 34" but:
1. You will loose more fps (60% loss compared to 1080p). It is highly adviceable to upgrade the PC too, at least the GPU.
2. Those monitors with GSync and 100Hz will brake my wallet. Only the normal 60Hz IPS is reachable for normal people.
Hence: I stick with 27" 1440p 144Hz IPS Monitor with Gsync

I went from tops of 60fps on a 1080p TN panel monitor to 85-100fps on a 1440p 165Hz G-Sync monitor, and the difference was jaw dropping for me. There was no way I could go back. The colors, the speed, and buttery smooth game play....

When I was at 1080p a mid range GPU was sufficient but at my new monitor a high end GPU is needed, so that must be considered.

Lots of the Ultrawide monitors are just too slow for fps gaming, and some games don't support the 21:9 ratio, and instead they just stretch the image. If you want a fast Ultrawide then you are looking at $1000+.
