I am planning to by a thinkpad T15p gen 2 (11800h,gtx 1650) mostly for my auto cad course and also to play emulators like rpcs3 Xenia etc, so I was wondering how the performance was and if the thermals are any good as it has only one fan and will the plastic build affect longevity? ( I could not find any reviews of the laptop online so I really would like to know)
Thank you

Any laptop that's built out of plastic will have a short lifetime when in the hands of users and even more so when they are subjected to hot or cold environments as plastic can end up being brittle. The laptop you're looking at is built well but as the other laptops out there, they can survive for a long while if you take care of them, both temps wise(keeping them as cool as possible) and being as gentle with them as possible.

Hi,

also been looking to buy a new Thinkpad for a long while now, with this being the frontrunner. I haven't got round to actually doing the purchase, but my current E530 is about 8 years old now, seen a lot and still running. The chassis was replaced at some point, although I didn't request it. My point is, the fact that it's made of plastic shouldn't be a problem. I take good care of my machines and this one had some minor issues with the case, but looking at its age, y'know.. 'tis fine.

The T15p and its stats are looking cool. My workflow includes some music production work, a bit of amateur-level Photoshop and Illustrator and I'd like to do some light gaming. Right now I don't have a proper GPU, since the motherboard was replaced 2-3 years ago and the spare part didn't have the chip. The reason for the repair was some sort of north or southbridge getting whacked, hah.

Anyway, my only disappointment right now is that currently they don't seem to have T15p gen 2 with i7-11850H available 🙁 I remember the first days when it was announced on their site, the slightly higher-end processor was there and I would've loved to get a model with that chip. Currently I'm waiting for the right moment anyway, not available yet where I live, but I hope the 11850H still makes it.. I don't understand why it's disappeared from the specs. Can anyone clarify?

All in all, I'm quite hopeful about this being a good workhorse for me so fingers crossed.

The only thing that I'm concerned about is the thermals really because emulators are mostly cpu dependent so I am a bit curious if the one fan can keep the cpu and gpu cool at the same time, I could not find any thermals tests done on it online so I really want to know how the thermals are under a constant load for about say an hour or two?
