[SOLVED] third party apps wont download anything when asked to?

I've just built a new computer and im using firefox, that works fine and can do anything on firefox. However if i try to log into steam, or set up battlenet (where it tries to fetch its own downloads via the app itself, they seem to be unable to communicate with any network.
Specs if helps:
i5 9600k
z390 aorus elite
16gb 3200mhz corsair rgb pro

Yeah i get all of that, ive juts downloaded origin and its fine however battlenet and steam both seem to not be having fun. would it make a difference that im on a public network?

It is possible. Firefox for example has it's own settings and doesn't rely on the "Internet settings" from the windows settings.

You need to check the firewall settings. If it thinks you are directly on the internet it runs a very restrictive rules that pretty much only allows web browser traffic
