AWS had the snowball bulk transfer option for glacier. Similar concept, but tailored to AWS.

Still can't beat the incredible bandwidth of someone carrying disks onto a plane. However that 1st byte out latency is killer.

Usually though people just carry the disks, not a full computer... with a DB9 serial port.
