will handle the the R9 280 GPU?

You should be fine with that system both for CPU and PCI-Expresss. I think the most you can put in it would be a Phenom and possibly a Thuban depending on the motherboard. I don't think its compatible with AM3+ CPU's.
There will be come games that might be hard on that CPU (some games are very CPU defendant) but you should be fine with somewhat lowered settings.

Also 750w is a lot, you don't need that much but you cant go wrong with extra.

ahh ok, so I was half right 😛

Yeah you should be good to go with the r9 280. You might not get top performance out of it, but you should definitely see a huge increase over your current gpu

Just one question, which PSU do you have? I need the model number, brand and wattage

Will buy an XFX 750w, btw, the CPU will be good for the new games for sometime? Or i'll need to change it? I will not get the full perfomance because the PCI-E version?

which XFX PSU are you looking at? (If you've got a link post it :) )

PCI-E version shouldn't matter, modern GPUs (including the r9 280) don't saturate PCI-E 2.0 x8 slots as of yet (except for maybe the r9 295x2 or Titan Z) so PCI-E 2.0 x16 should be golden :) As for the CPU, you should be fine for now, but you will may need to upgrade it in 12-18 months time, however this time scale is just a rough guess :)

if you were to replace both, it would depend on your budget. The most common way to go is the i5-4690k and a Z97 motherboard. (these should do just fine http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2Hckgs)

However, if you were on a tighter budget, you could go for a Pentium Anniversary edition from intel. It probably wouldn't be quite as good as the 4690k in game that use more threads (e.g. BF4), however it comes in at a much cheaper price point, and can be overclocked on most LGA 1150 motherboards. So something like this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Xb2drH would also work, but may not perform as well as the i5 with the z97 motherboard

I would recommend the XXX series of PSUs from XFX (http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Edition-Modular-Certified-P1750XXXB9/dp/B008O50WGA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408043885&sr=8-1&keywords=xfx+xxx) over their XTR PSUs, as they come in at roughly the same price point on amazon, yet the XXX PSU is rated higher on the tiered PSU list (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html)
