My friend is using a ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP motherboard and we recently installed Intel Core 2 Duo E8600. It was the fastest Core 2 Duo we could find that matched the LGA 775 socket. I made sure to update the BIOS to the latest version before installing the CPU. Right after POST the error message "CPU not supported. Press F1 to continue" appears but when we press F1 the system will continue to boot into Windows 10 and operate just fine. We contemplated leaving it as-is but the error message has continued to bother me. The E8600 uses 65W which should be well within the tolerance range for the motherboard. My concern is are we causing damage to the system using this processor?
UPDATE:
Another issue that has come up is that whenever we try to install more than 4GB of RAM the system wont boot up at all. Just a black screen. They are fully inserted. When we drop back down to 4GB the system will boot as normal. The system is Vista 64-bit not 32-bit and I just confirmed the max is 8GB RAM just like the box says but the motherboard doesn't seem to like anything above 4GB. We are currently using 2x 2GB DDR2 800Mhz sticks, dual channel (same colored slots). They are generic I don't know if that matters any but the brand named sticks cost almost twice as much.
