this cpu OC normal?

I just got done trying BF4 with only a mild OC at 4.2, and I was consuming 84-88w of power form the CPU with a VID of 1.2910 and core voltage at 1.248. My temps at MAX read 62, 62, 60, 63, 62, 65C, but they would hover around 56-60c throughout gameplay. I played for 30minutes straight with intel speedstep off. Is this normal because if its not I am going to take off the OC. I am hitting 45w at idle right now, and temps read 37-43c.

4960x @ 4.2, 2133mhz 4x4 16gb dom. plat., 1500wpsu evga, asrock extreme9 x79
780ti sc sli

So the 85w I am consuming at 1.248v during gameplay is pretty good? I'm just not use to seeing that. Im new at OC'ing of course, so not sure what to expect.

The CPU has a TDP of 130W, so 85W is nothing to be worried about.

Yeah, the voltage is OK, although you could probably bring it down if you have the time to tweak it. The difference in the temps and the power consumption won't be that big at 4.2GHz though.

Try bringing down your voltage a bit.
Download Prime95, run the Small FFTs test, and tell me what your max temps are after about 20 mins.

bsod'ed within seconds with prime95. got the 0x0124 bug code. i didnt change the voltage either btw, i just wanted to test what i had at the moment

just started it and the degress went WAY up into the 70's at 100% load and i am 143w! should i stop?

Nope, that's not dangerous, but it's a bit high for 4.2GHz. Try adjusting the voltage, that might help a bit. Also, what CPU cooler do you have?

The new version of Prime makes the CPU run around 10C hotter than previous versions, keep that in mind.

Then you should try turning up the voltage, that should make it more stable.

Ah yeah, Prime is very good for finding unstable overclocks. Try bumping the voltage up a little. If you temps go up to 85C, drop the frequency by 100Mhz and also the voltage.

I know there is no real answer to this because its all about testing, but how much higher would you suggest for voltage?

Try 1.252. Also keep the VID at auto, you don't need to be messing with that.

Try going up 0.01V at a time. When it gets stable, start going down 0.001V at a time, that way you should be able to find a stable voltage. You probably won't need much more than what you already have for 4.2GHz.
