Okay guys. Here's the situation:

I had an Asus laptop that failed. I removed the hdd because at the time it still worked. Had a small problem but scandisk fixed it in a heartbeat. I copied a file off of it to my other laptop and it fell off my desk. Ever since, all it does when I plug it into power is beep. It's a weird kind of beep though. It does three long beeps, a short little beep then three short beeps again. Like this: beeep beeep beeep bip Bip Bip bip. It does that like three times then it shuts off. I recorded it on video but I can't upload it on here. Has anyone had this happen to them? I tried looking on this site but to no avail. It's so weird. Please help me somehow. I need the files on that hdd asap.

Thanks.

I am assuming you are using an external adapter/enclosure to read the hard drive? Try another adapter/enclosure.
I had a client do this and it ended up breaking something on the little circuit board inside the enclosure and the hard drive was okay. Hopefully this is the problem as the alternative is not good.

Hi there wflash,

External drives could make beeping sounds when there is not enough power supplied. This is why, you can try attaching it with a different USB cable to another port. It would be best if you can attach it internally through SATA to a desktop computer.
In case the issue persists, then there is something physically wrong with the HDD. In case you have really important data stored on it, you may need to contact a data recovery company.

The thing is that the hard drive was internal 2.5in sata. Yes, I am using an external power supply and usb cable to copy files. You guys suggest trying using different power supplies or usb cables, but nothing worked. I have a power adapter that came with the ide/sata to usb adaprer im using, and I pulled out two of my trusty ATX power supply whisc has sata power connectors. Again, same problem. I heard that banging it or throwing it in the freezer will help, but I"m not risking my files anymore than they are right now. I tried popping the internal hdd out of the laptop i'm using right now and putting this one in, but, you guessed it, the same exact problem. I need a better solution soon.

And also, D_Know_WD, you say I should go to a data recovery center to get it chhecked out, but there is nothing around that does it for cheap. I am not willing to spend a hundred dollars on getting my files back.
