So I need help , my mother board (asus sabertooth 990fx R2.0 ) is picking up my WD hdd but when I go back to windows 8 (or start screen ) it wont lemme use it for anything !

If this is a data drive or an ext drive loo under windows drive tools to see if the drive is there. sometimes with windows and drive tools you have to give new drives a drive letter.

In Windows 8, single right mouse-click the lower-left corner of the Desktop and choose Disk Management from the menu.

After a moment, Windows should populate the Disk Management console with all of the drives it has detected. Is your drive listed? If it is, what is Windows telling you about the drive?

If the drive is new, perhaps it needs to be initialized and formatted?

If the drive is not new, perhaps it has an unrecognized partition type, unrecognized format type, or is simply in need of having a drive letter assigned to a partition on that drive.

This is my first hdd , never been used , this is my first pc build , and big pink dragon i did what u said but it says the hdd is unallocated

this is your boot up drive? and is Windows 8 to be installed or already installed?

If installed, you can access the start menu?

ah oki doki, i still consider an SSD as a HDD :lol:

Ah ok so it's unallocated, so Windows 8 detects it, but as said above it's got no Drive letter.

Since i cant remember how-to do it exactly, from Windows 7:

if it looks like that, right click on the unallocated space and tell me the options you have 😀

It gives me 3 options , convert to dynamic disk, convert to get disk and offline!

Ok right click on where it says "Disk 1/2" next too the unallocated space.

Right click on the unallocated space (Click in the unallocated space itself)

New simple volume and follow the wizard!

Oh and I consider ssd over hdd any day but I was on a budget and I'm gaming so thats why I got a hdd.

Which do I use , assign to following drive letter, assign to following empty NTfs folder or do not assign a drive letter to drive path?

Oh wait now it says that it reads it and everything but it says that (when I go to download the game using hdd) the game installation directory is invalid . Please select a different diretory
