Hi there everyone. Thanks for taking a quick look.

I bought this second hand PC from a shop for $5 its a dell inspiron D06S001. The problem I'm having as of now (please bare with me as I am rather new to messing with bios and boots) is I don't know the administrator password. Because it was bought second hand the shop also didn't know.

Now dell does have the DBAR (dell backup and recovery) tool. So I went ahead and put that onto a thumb drive (I downloaded the tool from another computer then used the thumb drive and uploaded the tool that was supposed to boot from usb and recover like new) and what do you know. It did not work. Every time I get passed the backing up of files (which I pressed skip 3 times and also tried not skipping it once to see if it would change the outcome) it says it tries to recover but fails because the smart test fails.

I believe the computer I'm trying to get into is a Windows 7 home premium and am completely stuck trying to just hard reset it.

The bios uses legacy as well as uefi
And have tried changing around bios settings yet nothing seemse to help.

So my question ( as if it isn't already obvious) how do I just hard reset this PC without using dell backup and recovery. Also without using any of the CDs or usbs that came with the original PC?

Thank you for reading this and I would be more than pleased to get a response.

I'm afraid your not going to get much in the way of help with this issue here. Bypassing passwords is a major no no around here. The fact that you got it for $5 sounds shady as well. I'd recommend hitting up the police to see if it matches any reported stolen computers.
