I know this is crazy, but it turns out my hard drive was not damaged, it was my motherboard that temporarily stopped working. The motherboard is somehow working now, but the thing is, when I tried booting my internal drive on my laptop with an SATA adaptor, it did not boot, and that led me to believe that my hard drive was dead. Unfortunately, since I had exposed the platters to inspect the mechanisms, a few particles of dust are on the platters, and although the drive and OS are booting now in my desktop system, file navigation has become extremely slow. The weird thing is, the OS booted fairly fast, but file navigation has slowed to a crawl.

So, my question is, if I can somehow remove the few particles of dust without touching the platters, will my file navigation return to normal speed? And what are the best methods for removing these few particles?

You ruined your hard drive by opening it up so now it’s time to buy a new one
