Hello,

I'm finishing my last year of carpenting at school and I need to make some kind of furniture. I decided to make myself a desk. I decided to make it out of zebrano wood and white glossy fiberboard(?, don't know how you call these kind of panels, definitely not plywood)

Here are some pictures

If any of you guys have an opinion or great ideas please tell me!

You need more desk space, less shelves.

Books are digital. You need a place for your printer, lots of desk space for your keyboard/mouse/monitor/printer/laptop/laptop#2, speakers, potentially a phone, a space to put a picture of a maybe girlfriend (or boyfriend these days), and speakers. Small cubby holes might be ideal if you have your router/modem by your desk as well.
Drawers? What the hell are those for these days? Storage space is nice and all but keep in mind the ability to move the desk later on.

Your desk space looks small. Great for a project, you'll regret it later on for practical use.

I pretty much thought about all those things..

The desk space I could use for keyboard,mouse,joystick,etc.. is about 85cm in width and 47cm in depth. The total width of the tablet (+ part on the left hand side) is about 1.45m.

I've found out a way to put away my keyboard,mouse,joystick,etc.. using the cupboard kind of thing at the back of the desk. I forgot to put any knobs or so on it, but you can lift it up using a hinge and shove everything in there, close it. And the whole desk is empty. I can also put my monitor, desk lamp and speakers/woofer on that.

The room on the lower right hand side is for my printer, it can be rolled out for the scanning hatch. The top drawer on the lower left hand side is not a drawer, but just a plate which you can pull out. I can use it for my hobby and for extra desk space. The shelves on the top are for storage for my hobby stuff ( RC cars) and school books.

I'm having some issues finding good spots to make passages for the wiring.. Notice the rectangular hole I made in the tablet for mouse,keyboard,..

Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Belgium.

Depending on the configuration of items, you might want wiring holes on the left, right, and center to allow for multiple configurations.

I would make it easy to detach the top portion of the desk, the cabinets, if you just wanted a desk and/or easier to move it around. I'm thinking you might be able to market his item considering a desk like this in the US would go for around $300US and up. If made of real wood, you're talking $500-$800 range easily.

Consider also on the back to be able to mount your monitor instead of having it on a stand. You would need some holes to run wiring out the back to give a clean look.

In fact, I was going to make the top portion disassemblable and I would glue the 2 bottom "boxes".

I've looked for wall mounts that I want to use, but they are just too expensive, cost as much as a new monitor. I'm just going to use the stand,no problem.

I was planning from making it out of melamine and/or HPL plates with wood texture and high or semi-gloss plates( white plates). It's about 70 euro for a plate 2.8m x 2.08m

Don't use Teak 5/4 finished... you could spend $1500 in Teak alone and NOT have paid for the coutertop area......I Build custom furniture part time and know how expensive it can get....Go on any Carnival Cruise ship and look at the Teak towel stations by the pool...with the awning and granite top.....Those little things were $20K each. I know I built them!

First off, a natural finish combined with a white melamine fiber board?

That's like two words that shouldn't be in the same sentence much less in the same piece of furniture?

That diagonal angled drop the desktop takes in the design, good luck getting those joints looking as good as the picture, and keeping them from opening up in the future.

Fiberboard is pressed paper, the finish will chip over time allowing moisture in the air to get to it and it will swell, whatever you do keep it dry if you go ahead with this project.

I seriously urge you to reconsider your fiber board choice of desktop material.

Just curious what does this have to do with politics at all?

Desks are for pooters ... I'm ok with it unless the desk is designed to shoot someone and people start a discussion about desk wars or that different coloured desks are somehow superior ... or start picking on a desk with only three legs ... just for fun.
