[SOLVED] Thoughts: M.2 SSD - Transcend vs MydigitalSSD

Hi - I'm finally getting around to replacing the 24gb SSD in my laptop with a new 128gb SSD to put win10 back on it...

I was wondering if you guys had any opinions on either company: Transcend or MydigitalSSD?

Basically, those appear to be the only two compainies I can find still making the M.2 SSD in the 2242 form factor I need for my lenovo y410p. Any other reputable sompanies I've missed would be appreciated. TY

My y410p already has a 1TB HDD in it. I want to put th the OS back on the SSD, where it originally lived till Win 10 went too big for the 24gb drive. I have an intel Core i7 4700MQ that runs fine but the operating system on the (5200) HDD is killing my performance... well that and the crappy intel 4600 graphics but I don't play games on this so the graphics card is not that important to me.

You can buy a 1tb samsung 860 QVO drive for about $100.
The samsung ssd migration app can move the whole drive for you.
Having everything on a ssd will make everything so much quicker.
You will need a usb to sata adapter cable, about $10 to do the move.
I have done this to many laptops with universally great results.

You can buy a 1tb samsung 860 QVO drive for about $100.

I don't know the specs on my current HDD, but I'm not sure I can put a 2.5 inch drive inside my laptop.

I'll check it out though as that is a nice suggestion, even if I was already set on a simple $35 buck solution - Thanks for the extra work today

Just got finished putting in the Samsung 860 EVO (500GB) and Wholly Effing Crap on a Cracker! This thing is lightning fast again - WHEW!

I went from a 5 minute boot time (yes, over 5 dam minutes!) to 15 seconds - yea, no shoot, 15 frackin seconds on 1st boot after screwing the base back on! Web pages load instantly, Word & Excel open in the flash of an eye as opposed to taking up to a minute, scrolling through pages no longer stutters, Its All Good!

BTW, the Samsung Data Migration Software was a breeze! Fortunately, I already had a Wavlink dual bay docking station, so the cloning process was a breeze. Top transfer speeds were in the 80 MB/s range and it was cruising in the 60-70 MB/s range for most of the cloning process. I connected the Docking station via USB 3.0 for the cloning process. The HDD was 1TB and the SSD was 500 GB and that was not an issue.

Phase 1 done. Now to find a new case and on to phase 2
