Hello

I am thinking of upgrading to a XFX HD6950 1 GB or the XXX version, from my current XFX HD5850 1GB Black Edition.

The thing is, i would like to be prepared for new games like Diablo 3, Dota 2 and run higher settings in StarCraft 2.

Im not sure if i would see a greater performance if upgrading to the HD6950, and will the performance be that much greater in the XXX version.

Im from Denmark, and the XXX version is somewhat more expensive than the standard edition, so im thinking if its a easy task to OC the standard one, buying the XXX might be waste of money, but i would just like to add, i dont know how to OC hardware, so im thinking it would make it easier for me to go for the XXX version.

My setup:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE
MB: AM3 GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT-UD5P 790FX
RAM: 4096 MB DDR3 PC3-10666 CORSAIR XMS3 DHX 1333
PSU: 750W CORSAIR TX SERIES ATX2.2
HDD: Samsung SpinPoint F3 Desktop Class HD502HJ-50
Monitor: Samsung 2233RZ (Resolution 1680x1050)

Any help is appreciated.

The HD 6950 is only 1 tier above the HD 5850. Even with only 1GB of GDDR5 memory, your card should handle anything at 1680X1050. I doubt you would see much performance increase as you should be getting plenty anyway.

I don't see any problems with your system, even for the newer games. My advice is skip this generation and wait to see what the next gen cards look like, and then maybe you'll be ready for a monitor upgrade.
