does it make any sense to rather take the i5 4670k and a Z87 board?

It really comes down to, are you going to overclock?
The B85 chip will perform every bit as well as the Z87, not over clocked.

I just put together a very similar system for Flight Simulator X, but an MSI B85, and don't want to overclock.
It is a really good system.

about overclocking...with my build how long will i be able to play new games without overclocking?

Looks like a pretty good build for no OverClocking, but you would not need a CPU cooler if you aren't OCing.

You have a better power supply than mine.
Other than that they are the same good.

I really don't think many games benefit from overclocking, with a processor at that level.
That falls more to the video card.

Flight simulator and other Sim like games can benefit from CPU overclocking though.
But I still don't think it is worth it anymore.

so i really dont need the mugen 4 extra cooler with i5 4670?
and millwright you think i should just take the i5 4670 and i'll be able to play new games for a couple years or so?

I would think that I5 would be good for gaming for a few years.
I still would get a good after market cooler, even though you don't need it.
The are quieter, and do run quire a bit cooler.

It is the video card, and the power supply that you will be updating first.
