Thoughts on my i7 8700k build?

Solution
You can get a less expensive power supply. Something with 650w would be fine for that build. 750w if you have plans for sli. Also that kracken is pretty high priced. I understand you want to match it with the case because they are both nzxt. However the Evga will give you the same results and save you some money.

If I remember correctly the 2070 will be coming out months after the the 2080 and 2080ti. Maybe after the first of the year? Probably just before xmas though. If your willing to wait. It could be worth it.

It can definitely be cheaper.

The 1080Ti is a great card that will last, but the 2070 will be newer. The RTX 2080 beats the 1080Ti, so keep that in mind.

That western digital is an M2 ssd. The 970 is M2 3.0x4. Much faster and obviously what he wants. You also picked a slower memory speed. Also you did not add a power suppy. One last thing you picked a 240mm aio and his pick was a 280mm.

I do think however you may be right about waiting for the new video cards. Though I think I would wait for the 2070 unless of course he will want to sli.

A 200 Mhz difference is not noticeable for Intel.

Yes, that SSD is faster. But for daily usage, the SSD I provided will be more than sufficient. No need to go overkill.

240 MM is smaller than 280, yes. But the AIO is much cheaper, and the cooling performance is around the same. Not to mention the CAM software for NZXT is atrocious.

750 W for a more balanced load on the PSU when you OC the GPU and CPU.

I kinda would await at least for the reviews for the 2070 or 2080. We are so close to the launch, even the 2070 is coming out in about a month. 1080TI is a great card, but the 10series technology is now 2 years old. I built my system last December and I could not get myself to buy a 10series card knowing that a new generation is coming.

I think you parts picks are pretty good, not cheap but good. I really would only question if you really want to go for 1080TI. You probably get the RTX2080 (non ti) version, which will be around the same speed, but will have tensor and RTX features. And with the RTX2080 you would get away with 650W Corsair PSU which will cost you at least $100 less. So the RTX card suddenly gets much cheaper for you. Are you planing to overclock the 8700K? and if yes, what is your goal? Because if you go with a good air cooled tower cooling solution you can still overclock pretty good and some solutions are much more silent and about a third of the price compared to the Kraken (look into darkrockpro4 or Noctua NH-D15, both very silent, keep the 8700k in check, and much cheaper). I just mention it because some people nowadays don't even consider air cooling anymore, even so those solutions are great. Cheaper, more reliable and much more silent. The savings for the cooler could again invested into an RTX card...

The PC is purely for gaming. I want to be able to run all the latest games on max settings without dropping too many frames. I also run a three monitor setup and often have multiple windows open at the same time even whilst I'm gaming. If I don't have to overclock cpu I won't but it is an option there if I need to... so maybe the cooling I selected was a little overkill.

After doing a little more research i'm now leaning towards the 2080 instead of the 1080TI especially considering they should be around the same price.

seriously look into the darkrockpro3 or 4 for the cooling option (looks cool too). Will save you a lot of money and you will not hear your CPU cooling at all. overclocking the 8700k will be possible with it and you save money you can put towards the RTX2080.

I think the RTX2080 will cost you around $750 to $850 but you will have piece of mind and you will not get buyers regret by not having RTX and tensor....
