Thoughts on possible upgrades, if any?

Hello everyone!

I have a gaming PC with the following specs:

Cooler Master RC-650L-KKN1 Silencio 650 middle tower 3*5.25" 7* 3.5" No power ATX NERO
Corsair CP-9020056-EU RM850 Power supply 850W 80+ Gold ATX modular
Intel i7 4790k
CRYORIG R1 Universal
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H z87 4*DDR3 Gen 3.0 sk1150 Vga/Dvi/Hdmi ATX
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 4gb *4
Nvidia GTX1080ti Strix OC
Dell U2515H (2k)

I play on 2k mainly because I usually am at less than 50cm from the monitor, so I guess a 4k wouldn't be worth it?
In case, which components should I change?

Even without the whole 4k matter, if I had a bit of budget to use on upgrades, would you suggest any?
I'm not really an expert so I know nothing about compatibilities(sizes, power, bios), I can't really identify the right parts by myself!

The benefit of going 4k for gaming still can not really be justified by the fps lost.
Instead of going 4k, I would rather go for 1440p 144/165Hz.
1080ti + 4790k are still quite good for pushing high fps on 144'/165Hz 1440p monitor.
I would leave your Pc as it is for now and only go for 27" 1440p 144/165Hz monitor e.g. XB271HU or PG279QR.

well your build looks more then fine to me and i recommend that you dont upgrade now (new gpu/cpu are around the corner), but if you insist next step on upgrade is transfer to ddr4 and a cpu with more cores (rysen or Series 8 intel). but that is about it. GPU is powerfull if you dont care that much for 4k ( i still play on 1080). maybe one more GPU just for fun ( but it would be a overkill). i would say your build now is ok fore next 2-4 years if nothing much changes.

Thank you! So you'd say that the next upgrade should be when the 4k is actually sustainable or the 1080ti is not enough to play on 2k at ultra?
And the 4790k is fine?

As for the monitor, the U2515H is very good but has locked Hz, would you say that the jump to 144Hz is a big deal? Serious question, I have honestly no idea!

there is a lot of other things that can be benefitial, lets have a look on drives and storage/backups.
Do you have separate backup drive or maybe home nas for media ?
maybe that's worth checking. Your PC is still a powerhouse, switching to 9'th gen will yeld maybe 30% more power, but not worth $ imho.

For driving stable 4k gaming, I think you will have to wait for some further years.

like already mentioned 4790k+1080ti is still good for driving high fps on 1440p 144/165Hz monitors. I would not upgrade your PC for the moment
I would go only for the monitor upgrade, if you want.

The jump from 60Hz to 144hz is huge, especially for shooting games.
Aside from smoother gameplay on higher fps, you will get rid of VSync.

All Dell U line-ups are designed not for pure gaming. You can never find any of those going high refresh rate.

Other things aside from higher refresh rate monitor you can also consider are like:
- SSD, if you do not have one
- bigger HDD, if you need more space

If you are quite satisfied with your PC, you can also consider building your first NAS infrastructure, if you do not have such system.

Awesome, I have both SSD and a large enough HDD for now so I'm good on that side.

You can also consider MG279Q.
This one is FreeSync monitor tho', which only compatible with AMD.
With your 1080Ti, this one is only a normal 144hz monitor...meaning...no adaptive sync for you.
You still have the advantage of high refresh rate monitor, just without any G-/Free-Sync.
MG279Q should be quite a lot cheaper then those G-Sync brothers.

Uhm, sorry but I don't really know what's the actual difference between TN and IPS?
Yea I unfortunately am quite near to the monitor, which is one of the main reasons I don't even consider 4k right now.

TN: fast, bad viewing angle, bad picture reproduction (the good TN is not that bad in the picture quality)
Normal IPS: slow, excellent viewing angle, excellent picture reproduction quality (color accuracy, etc.)
Fast IPS (e.g. 144/165Hz): fast, excellent viewing angle, excellent picture reproduction quality (color accuracy, etc.), extremely expensive, production not yet stable (expect for RMAs)

Pixel density, size and viewing angle are factors to determine the best monitor resolution for you.
4k is actually good if you sit near enough the issue is more that you will loose fps on 4k for today. FPS is more important for me.
