Here all,

I'm looking to get some advice on this build before I pull the trigger.
This is going to be an editing, VFX workstation.
I'm brand new to building PCs coming from a Mac background so I was going to have it built for me by DigitalStorm.com

Here are the specs I'm looking at.

Specifications:
Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Black OPS Aventum II

Processor: Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 5960X 3.0GHz (Eight-Core) (Extreme Performance)
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-X99-SLI (Intel X99 Chipset)
System Memory: 32GB DDR4 2666MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX (High-Performance)
Power Supply: 1000W Corsair HX1000i (Digitally Controlled Power)

Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 8x / CD-Writer 8x)
Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (500GB Samsung 850 EVO)
Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (2TB Western Digital/Seagate/Hitachi)

Graphics Card(s): 2x Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB (Outputs: 1x DVI-I ; 3x DisplayPort

was also perhaps thinking of going with one Titan X 12gb instead of the 2 GTX 980s. But was wondering thoughts on using one GPU vs 2.

Thanks.

Great build, keep the two 980ti's since they will give you better performance.

Can't see the i7 5960X being worth 3x times more than the i7 5820k

Yeah I've been reading up on that. Some are saying the 980ti handles rendering better than the Titan X. Also I can dedicate one GPU to running any GUI stuff.

Thanks. I'm liking that price a lot better obviously. But my thinking was to go with an 8 core processor, even though it's quite a bit more expensive. I see if I can find any performance tests that compare the two CPUs specifically relating to the programs I'll be running.

The 5960X will obviously be better, but is it $600+ better? I doubt it. The 120GB ssd in my build is for the OS only. I like to keep it separate from everything else. I would get all other drives in pairs for RAID. RAID is a must at your budget IMO. I like RAIDs 1, 5, and 10 the best.

Yeah definitely. Might be better to put that extra cash towards second monitor anyway. Just worried about the 6-core processor handling 4K RAW footage.

Also yes, I should have mentioned that I will be working almost completely off of external RAIDs. Right now working off 2 8TB Western Digital RAID 1 systems.

I guess that brings up another question I had. Would it be possible to add a Thunderbolt interface to this build?
