Why did you want to swap the thermal paste out in the first place?

so basically i changed the thermal paste on my GTX 980 and i think some static got onto the card PCB or something because when i plugged it back in.. it will only run at x2 speed on express lane no matter what.. it is supposed to run at x16 speed but it simply doesn't. Even during games it is stuck at that speed.. games feel slower as well.. can this card be repaired or do i have to chuck it away and buy something else? :/ Feel stupid and slightly depressed about it.. Only had it 8 months. Obviously i voided the warranty by simply opening up the card in the first place..

Basically.. is there anything i can do besides chuck it away? Does it sound like an easy repair?

if your motherboard has another pcie slot try that

if your motherboard has another pcie slot try that

i tried another computer with a different motherboard... it was doing the same thing :/

It was getting pretty hot and i didn't want to send it back.. So i tried changing the paste to see if that sorts it.. i heard that sometimes the thermal paste can be bad on some cards.. in this case.. the thermal paste was bad.. but obviously i eventually did more harm than good 🙁
