I've just ordered some components for upgrading my rendering machine. I ordered a threadripper 3960X as my CPU, along with 32gb of 3600mhz RAM.
I think I'm right in saying that, if I mix RAM speeds, all the RAM will run at the lowest speed. I have also read that Threadripper runs better with faster RAM .
My old machine has 16gb of 3200mhz RAM so I'm wondering what would give me better performance, rendering in DaVinci Resolve, either running all 48gb running at 3200mhz or the 32gb at 3600mhz.
Maybe the answer is to just benchmark both set ups (probably), but if anyone has any specific insight into this, perhaps regarding Resolve, Threadripper, or mixing RAM in general, I'd be much obliged.
