Which threadripper and for doing what. Threadripper has some very specific benefits such as quad channel RAM and more pcie lanes. However if you don’t need that then it’s irrelevant.

The old 8 core Threadripper will be slower than a 3800X. The biggest advantage the Threadripper has over the Ryzen is RAM quantity support, however, the new Ryzen support as much RAM as the old Threadrippers.

For gaming the Ryzen 3000 series will be better than Threadripper Gen 1 or 2.
