Hi All,

This thread is tangential to my other thread posted here: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3768360/tr2-msi-creation-ram-4x16gb-2x32gb.html

This is a separate concern, as I would like to use this build as both a gaming rig and a productivity workstation. If virtualization works properly, with 16 cores/32 threads + 64 GB of RAM (upgradeable to 128 on the MSI MEG X399 CREATION mb), I can easily run 8-12 VMs on this machine and have plenty in terms of CPU headroom.

However, I know a friend who returned his 1950X because the AMD-V had trouble with Hyper-V. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is a problem with the 2950X? I really like the specs on this TR2 and think it will be a really good catch-all PC when I add a good graphics card, but I really want to be able to run a domain for testing purposes (I am a BI Developer + learning AI + building the latest in WIndows and Linux systems on domain- and non-domain- joined server environments). I really would like to have the best of both worlds here, but would like to know if it will work from a virtualization perspective with native Hyper-V (I have access to the full server builds with my Visual Studio Ultimate subscription). I have heard rumors of problems (i.e. I believe I heard there were problems with SR-IOV working properly which limited Hyper-V and Xen scenarios). Let me be clear, I really don't want advice like "use VMWare" - if you notice the other stuff i am learning, you will see that I do not have time to re-learn a different platform.

Thanks!

Solution
It's be hard to imagine Hyper-V still not functioning a full year after Threadripper's release, frankly....

I'd be understanding it not working at delivery, perhaps, but, would bet money on it working now
