Why are threadripper motherboards so much more expensive than coffee lake?

The TR4 mainboards compete with X299 Pro-sumer/Workstation boards...

There might be a few folks who can use the TR4 processors to good effect for video editing/effects, etc, but, most general use gamers would be better served with a RYzen or i5/i7 and compatible mainboard, with the added convenience of the latter combo being up to about $700-$800 less expensive than TR4 combos...

And then on top of everything else, the less expensive rigs are a bit faster at gaming anyway....
