Recently my brother-in-law dropped out of college and came to live with my wife and myself, and proceeds to mooch our wireless and play wartune and talk to his wartune guildmates on vent from dawn till dusk.

Honestly, I really wouldn't care that much, but this is killing every other device on my wireless network, to the point where the kids can't watch Netflix on the Wii because it keeps timing out, so my question is this. Is there any way, on my router (or generally on mid range consumer rounters) to cap or throttle a single PC's bandwidth without having to jump through 101 hoops to set it up? I'm semi-experienced in networking, but looking through the settings for this router, I didn't see any clear way to do this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

you can enable the QoS service in your router but you'd have to configure the ports your brother in law uses while playing games and vent as low priority and configure netflix/etc as high priority.

You may also be able to limit the bandwidth of his pc in Megabits per second if you install the ddwrt firmware. This would require you to reconfigure your entire network however.

Use your router's airnavigator cd and select change firmware to do this. Follow the instructions under change firmware in your routers manual which can be found here:

Or alternatively, go to dd-wrt.com and follow the steps to flash dd-wrt to your specific router.
