Thumbnails Missing on mp4 and AVI video files. Help?

Hello,

I have had thumbnails on all my video files of Mp4 and AVI formats.
I got a new HDD. Now no thumbnails are showing up on Mp4 or AVI video files. Anyway to fix this quickly without downloading a codec like other websites are telling me? Most of these files are on my desktop. Here is what I mean.

If it's just a thumbnail issue and not a playback issue, codecs have nothing to do with it so don't even think about doing that.

Make sure you've got the folder window set to an 'icon' view (small, medium or large icons) and not set to 'List' or 'Details' view.

I did, some are on the desktop as well. Just such a bother looking at them and not seeing the thumbnail. I also tried to clear the thumbnails through a disk cleanup. No success with that either. Added a picture above to show exactly what I mean rather than me trying to explain it.
