I have turned off the option to store thumbnails in thumbs.db-files on my
computer. I have also turned off hiding of hidden and system files. However,
I have some leftover thumbs.db files laying around, and I want to remove
these. When I enter a directory with a thumbs.db file using explorer I see
the file and can delete it. But if I use the search tool to find all
thumbs.db files on my computer, none are shown! I even tried entering the
commandline and running 'dir /s thumbs.db', but not even one comes up even
though I know for a fact that I have some of those laying around!

1) Why on earth does the search tool and the command line refuse to show
these files, even when I disable hiding of hidden/system/protected files?

2) Are there any other files and folders I should be aware of that I cannot
access or find? I know I can't access the System Volume Information
directories.

After selecting All files and folders, select More advanced options and tell
Search to include hidden files and folders.

The search of XP is totally STUPID. I hate it!
I use the free file finder included in the free powerdesk5 program
It says trial but its actually free, get it here:
http://www.v-com.com/product/PowerDesk_Free_Trial.html

then after you install it go to START>PROGRAMS>POWERDESK5>FILE FINDER

and use that, that is like the good ol windows98 search
