Hi all, well I just completed the installation of my new
pc and now its time for some OC'ing fun. Let me just run
down the specs on the comp for you guys first:
-AMD Athlon TB 900mhz Socket A, 384kb cache, 200mhz..etc
-ASUS AV7 mobo
-PC133 256mb Crucial SDRAM CAS2
-Alpha PAL6035 w/ Sanyo Denki fan (YS is too LOUD!)

What can I get out of this? while still making it very
stable. I don't want to push it too much, I just want to
know appromixately what the highest speed I can get it
at while still making it very stable.

So far I'm looking at 105-7mhz FSB w/ 9.5 multiplier (do
you guys think I can get 10? it doesn't seem out of the
question, it'll be at 1050mhz, which seems reasonable
enough but again, I want it to be VERY stable). And of
course full voltage (1.85V). I think the Crucial SDRAM can
handle 138-140, buts thats just my opinion.

What would you guys recommend as a good setting for optimal
speed and stability with my current set up? Anyone have
first hand experience they can share?

Also, my heatsink/fan seem to be applying lots of pressure
on the chip, anyone recommend flatening out the clips?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah thats what I've been hearing, but is it safe? Again I want to increase the speed w/o effecting the stability much.
But if I can get it up to 1.1ghz while still keeping it very
stable than thats great.

But the "(requires some luck)" part of your post has me worried. It seems like 1.1ghz is pushing it to the extreme if it requires luck, which wouldn't seem to make it very stable/safe. I don't want to take any chances, just a safe, stable overclock.

Most people would be able to overclock to 1.1GHz very stably. Some processors can't, some can. Just try it out, and if it crashes, freezes, blue screens, etc, then just tone it down a notch.

I have almost the same setup and the best I can do is X 10 at 102 FSB But it's not 100% stable.
My CPU just didn't seem to like x 10. And would not even post at 10.5.
I decided that X 9.5 at 105 FSB is as good as it gets for my 900 Tbird. Guess I got a lame one 🙁
It is not dangerous. The worst thing that happened to me was my HD got corrupted, probable form trying to run the FSB to high. All I had to do was reinstall windows.

If I were you I'd start off by getting bios 1005a, promise build 33 and via4in1 425, then leave the FSB at 100, and increse the multiplier in steps until you reach the max...then monitor your temps, and see how stable everything is. I expect that with a good HSF you won't have any problems at 1.1...my 800 runs at 1000 no problems.

Good luck.

You can find everything you will ever need at the ftp.asuscom.de ftp site. Nogotiating the German folders may be a little confusing, but you will find the right stuff in the end. Others have posted the exact location...try doing a search for ftp.asuscom.de in all forums, using the search boards option over there <=.

PEACE.
