I need basic office light gaming card for a Pee4see system, will it do for 50 bux minus 15 rebate, or there is a better "value" card that can do Quake 3? I was thinking about spending some and get 6600 GT for future, but I see they poping up like mushrooms. What do you think getting this one now and in a few month 6600 GT when it goes down in price would be better route?

I don't play much, I work more, but ocasionally play UT and kids play stuff like Motoracer and such. I had MX400 card in it, but gave away with Athlon XP system to my bro, and now have nothnig but a PCI card that can't do more than 16 bit in 10x7 res just to get by till my Ti comes in.

Currently I am suttisfied with P4C@3Gz and 1G of RAM running w2k, about 750GB HD space mostly used with backups and intertainment stuff. Just need a card that can pull a little game or two (older ones) until I build an Athlon 64 system in a bit.

Search for a used ATI 8500/9100... or 9200 as a last resort... 128 bit with 128 MB of ram... this will be a step up from your old MX card and might only cost you $30.00.

But considering $100 can get you a 9800 Pro, it is hard to spend money on anything less... and your kids will thank you... and you might appreciate it as well...

Saw an HIS 9800pro at Newegg for $99 today - think it was a refurb, but that's an awesome deal.

Especially in a work rig like his as it's a quiet card. 9700 pro's can be found new on pricewatch for $96, but I'd rather have the His 9800 pro refurb. A buddy bought the exact refurb a few months ago to upgrade from a noisy ti4200; It's been fine.

I've had a 9800Pro refurb (Sapphire) from Newegg running in my rig for close to a year now - no problems at all.

Stay the hell away from the 8500/9000/9100/9200 series. They really suck by today's standards.

The Ti4200 will do the job in UT, but on the cheap your money would be *MUCH* better spent on a used 9700 PRO or 9800 PRO.

But Cleeve, an 8500 can play BF2; Not even the Ti4600 makes that list.

Ok, just got the Ti in da hauz, put it in and there you go, garbage running lines all over, probably bad chip, sending it back.

Since we started to talk about $100 "solution" I'm gonna be getting 6600GT since it is a much better than 9800Pro (I hope) and cost only ~50 bux more. Need your blessings so that GT would be fine. Just out of curiocity: is there a better brand I should be looking at (MSI, Asus.. etc.) caz for me they all the same, I would like the quiet one of coarse ;)

And yeah, the old and trusty $40 Ti did not do it for me, proly the Most High wants me not to get stingy for myself and enjoy the life at it's best, sigh.. ;o)

6600GT is better than a 9800 pro, but if it were $100 vs. $150, to me the 9800 pro is the better value while the 6600GT the better performer.

If there were just 50 bux I would think about + or - little bit, but since I am going 100+ then it is going to be the best performer within that range since it is not cheap and still not as expansive as top of the line I'd like to spend a little extra to have a newer technology that performs close to the top, so it will perform for a little more time than 9800Pro would.

A 600GT will be nice. keep an eye out for a 12 pipe 6800 near that price as that would be better yet.

And more than likely unlock to 16 pipes with Rivatuner.

I am looking at 6600GT $145, x800GTO $180 and GF6800 12 pipes $169, which one (me thinking 6800, it is faster than 6600GT?).

..this is very useful and helpful place for information...

Make sure that the cards you're looking at are the right format - X800GTOs are not AGP.

With those options and needing an AGP card I would go for the 6800. Definitely faster than the 6600GT and unlocks to 16pipes with Rivatuner.
