My power supply is making a constant ticking sound. Would using wd-40 to stop the ticking sounds be a stupid idea? If so what would be some other solutions. Thank you.

Hi - The preferred method is it still being in warranty, & sending it back for repair/replacement.
If it is not under warranty, what beefy suggests above will work. Only I suggest you bite the bullet
and take it to a PC tech to do it, as simple & staraightfwd as it appears, those caps still hold a
potentially lethal charge. Better off letting someone who does it for a living do it.
Hi,

If it`s the fan then a little machine oil will be fine,wd 40 will be to thin for lubrication. You must take the fan out of the psu to do this, turn fan over and remove sticker and drop a drip of oil and rotate the fan to allow it to work in. WARNING you must disconect the psu from the wall socket and even then there is a chance of electrical discharge if you touch the wrong part of the psu,so only try if you are sure you can do this without injury. Also if oil does not work you can replace fan if you can find the same model or just replace the bearings.
