.tif too large

I am looking for a way to split a .tif file. Its a document that was saved as a .tif but is too large to upload into a documentation program. Does a program exist to split a .tif?

Maybe try converting it to jpeg? you need to access the file or is it just for distribution? You can Zip it and split the size you want....

JPEG might do it or you need to bring it into a photo editor and resize (lower the resolution) of the TIFF file.

tiff has options for compression so use them from the program that created the tiff.
load it up and click save. select the tiff format from the drop down and you should be given a new box of options containing the compression and quality settings. (gimp 2.6 may be an option if you dont have the original program the tiff was made with)

dont bother converting it to jpeg as any alpha channels contained in the tiff will be merged and data permanently lost.
