Hello Team,

I do PC repair for home users (optimizations, upgrades, PC setups) in there homes in the Atlanta, Georgia area. My business isn't that big due to marketing issues. I recently tried out a program called: TightVNC (from www.filehippo.com - the site where I get a lot of my PC repair tools/updates). I tried it on my home network. My router is a Linksys Wireless-G (WRT54G). I know, it's an older router, but it works OK. I installed it on my Laptop first. These are my laptop specs according to Speccy:

Operating System
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit SP1
CPU
AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-60 53 °C
Tyler 65nm Technology
RAM
4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 332MHz (5-5-5-15)
Motherboard
TOSHIBA IALAA (Socket M2/S1G1)
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1280x800@60Hz)
ATI Radeon X1200 Series (Toshiba)
Hard Drives
313GB Western Digital WDC WD3200BEVT-22ZCT0 ATA Device (SATA) 41 °C
1.98GB SD Memory Card (SD)
Optical Drives
MagicISO Virtual DVD-ROM0000
MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA Device
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

My network card is a Atheros Wireless-b/g LAN.

I installed TightVNC on my desktop which has Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3. It worked awesome between my laptop and my desktop including the file transfer option. (Note: I use TightVNC Viewer on my laptop to view the server on my desktop.) I felt that this is an interesting tool that I could use in my business when I repair other people's PC's.

The Test: I used my Grandmother's Desktop PC (Windoes XP Pro) in North Carolina to connect to. I had her installed TightVNC and disable her firewall. She uses AVG Pro. After the install, I also had her enable remote desktop in the system settings window.

I've been trying to connect to her computer's IP address from my laptop using tightVNC viewer with no luck. I get this error message: Failed to Connect to Server.

Note: I'm a noobie when it comes to using remote desktop. My first experience with remote desktop is using TightVNC. How can I get the connection with my grandmother's PC to work?
