Hi everyone, I would like to connect to 5 clocking in machines at different shops from main office. All the shops have a PC running windows 7 Pro, all with fibre broadband, but none of the clocking in machines support connecting to a VPN. But they do have a network connection. I've been told by the company who supplied them, as long as I can ping the terminals, then they can do the rest. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The terminals are U160

Daz3nt,

Is your network self contained: i.e., you have your own router (main shop) that connects to the Windows 7 PCs in each shop and the clocking in machines are each attached to the respective Windows 7 PC in each shop? No connections via the internet - correct?

Or is each clocking machine just connected to your network/router via its own network jack?

Just trying to ensure that I correctly understand the network layout.

If so either way, then you would just use the ping command via the DOS/Powershell screen to ping the IP addresses of each Windows 7 PC or clocking in machine attached to your router. If the Windows 7 PC's are hosting the clocking in machines then you may need to check the ports being used as well to ensure there is connectivity.

Or if you know the IP address range set up on the router you can use something like Advanced IP scanner to ping the range of IP addresses and show you what is connected. Windows 7 will also present a network map via Control Panel but that feature can be a bit flakey....

What I sort of sense is that the clocking in machine company would do (once they know the IP address of each host PC or individual clocking in machine) would be to configure the host PC or individual clocking in machine to communicate back to the main office host.

Trust that the above will help a bit, but please let me know if I have gone off track. Thanks.
