time and date freeze when the computer is off

My laptop time and date freeze when the computer is off. When I turn it back on, it picks up where it left off. I shut it down, removed battery and unplugged power and waited 35 mins, turned it back on and it was 35 mins behind, date fine. I have had others where the CMOS went dead, that was easy because it reset to date created in factory, but this is different. Any ideas?

Seems like your CMOS battery is dying or that the BIOS is giving up it's ghost(if its an aged laptop?). Try and replace the CMOS battery with a fresh cell and see if the issue is averted. Speaking of units, mind sharing the make and model of your laptop? On another note, have you made sure your laptop BIOS is up to date?
