I have a little older i5-7500, NVME, Asus STRIX B250G, Asus 1060 6GB and 600 Watts power supply.

I am starting the process of upgrading gradually my computer, and now I'm at GPU and Monitor.

I want to get a 1440p 144hz monitor. So.. I need a new GPU.

I'm hesistating between the Asus ROG 5700 XT, and a Asus ROG Strix 2070 super.

I would not mind upgrade my power supply if necessary.

Solution
As you increase the resolution the gpu needs to work a bit harder. Yes, a cpu upgrade would help but I understand the 7700's get pretty pricey.

If you choose to buy now then the 5700xxt or 2070 Super will do a fine job at 1440p, I'm running the latter now. If you can wait six months or so Nvidia will be releasing new gpu's with what may be a 50% performance increase if rumors are true. And AMD may have a surprise or two as well.

I own the Asus Strix 2070S. Great card but in comparison pretty pricey but does have a great heat sink on it. I'd suggest looking at some of the lesser expensive 2070S's as the performance will be within a few frames of one another. Ray tracing can add some nice eye candy but gets lost at times in the heat of...

Not saying one gpu over the other, just what your paying for.

In this test the i5 7500 performed pretty well.

Looks like in the United States that an i7 7700k is closer to 300 bucks used. In my opinion, I would suggest a new board, b450 or higher, and go for a ryzen 3600 or better, maybe sell your old components and upgrade gpu later. But as has been said, if you upgrade only gpu, your CPU may bottleneck it.
