Hi all,

I built my computer in 2011 - I think I can guess what the answers will be from the get go to my question.

I have used my PC mainly for general use it used to be more for gaming but I got an xbox (don't hate) as that's where all my friends were. So over the years my PC got relegated mainly to playing RS and WoW - however, I now want to start picking up a few more games today on my PC. However, to my shock when I tried to load up WoW for the first time in two years - mainly to just test the capability of the machine nowadays WoW told me my GPU didn't meet the basic requirements!?!

Specs of the PC are as follows:

CPU: i5 2500k (Not OC)
GPU: Zotac Nvidia GTX 560 Ti
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengenance LP DDR3
MOBO: Gigabyte Z68AP-D3
OS: Windows 10 (recent upgrade from Win 7 with a some slowing of the machine)

Not sure what my PSU output is but I can deal with that as they're generally quite affordable.

So really my question stands, can I get away with just replacing my GPU and perhaps adding an extra 8GB of RAM to the machine (obviously within limits of my PSU) and maybe OC the CPU (but I wouldn't know how to really do this...) - or do I need to overhaul it all?

I'm trying to stick within the realms of budget friendly (i.e. below £400) - that budget would change if I need to build a new PC) and bear in mind I won't be playing many, if any, AAA games on it - mainly indie games, WoW and RS

If you want to keep it on the cheap.

GPUUsed GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon Rx 580 8GB£ 100 to £ 125
RAMUsed 16GB DDR3, 1600Mhz, Non-ECC£ 40

SSDNew 500GB to 1TB (1TB is better for modern large games)£ 50 to £ 100

Then get about £ 30 to £ 40 selling off the old CPU , GPU and possibly RAM. After eBay fees and shipping fees. Possibly a little more if you sell them locally for cash via Letgo, Offerup, Craigslist, &c.

All in after selling your old parts. You'll likely be looking at spending £ 225 to £ 300 for what will be a...

All in after selling your old parts. You'll likely be looking at spending £ 225 to £ 300 for what will be a much improved computer and feel a lot like a new PC.

Another option is to sell your current computer for about £ 200 locally. Then build a new one for about £ 600.
