Impressive, But I'll still skip the first gen VR.
Been too spoilt on 1440p and 4k monitors now to go back to a low res VR headset, Especially when it's only a few inches away from your eyeballs. VR needs to be at least 1440p per eye or better yet 4k so we get no fly wire screen effect at all.

The retail version of the Rift is 2160x1200
StarVR is doing 1440p per eye.
Not sure what Vive will be yet.

We don't know anything official about the Vive yet.
what the dev kits are equipped with is not necessarily what the retail version will come with.

The resolution takes a hit, yes, but I'm more bothered by the narrow fov. Regardless, vr is such an apples to oranges amazing experience that it'll be worth it to jump on the bandwagon right away. Save the 4k monitor for when you need a break. :p

HTC literally publicly state that the HTC Vive is 1080 by 1200 on the front page of their HTC VR site. They can no longer change that for release, since the limited release is just a few short months away. Remember, this is not a prototype they're describing, it's the retail version.
