The preview card today:
***
Time Stop {6UU}
Instant
Champions of Kamigawa Rare
- End the turn. (Remove all spells and abilities from the game,
including this card. The player whose turn it is discards down to his
or her maximum hand size. Damage wears off, and "this turn" and
"until end of turn" effects end.)
***

I was wondering why all spells/abilities get yanked from the game. Is
there anything in the existing rules that would indicate this
behavior, or are they going to have to add to the rules for this?

I was thinking we do have stuff like "player skips his or her next
<??> step", but that's always set up before the step itself starts, so
you get to skip it in entirety.

Just wondering,
Peter

Insert the usual disclaimer here that if the cards don't exist yet,
neither do the rules for playing them. The Prerelease FAQ that'll come
out in a few weeks should cover all (or at least most) of these
questions.

Also, I haven't read today's articles yet, so what I'm saying may
already be covered in them.

Otherwise, the spells and abilities would still be there, and likely
resolve during the next turn's upkeep. That could be a little odd and
counterintuitive. It also makes the card a bit more powerful, as you
can use it as a counterspell-for-everything-on-the-stack.

No, but there's never been a card quite like it before.

Likely. They generally add to the rules for each expansion, so this
shouldn't be any different. They're already changing the rules for
Legends, and the keyword abilities they're adding.

Right. That's what makes this card so new and different.

The point of the card is that the current player's turn comes to
an immediate end. This means that everything still pending on
the stack needs to go away.

This is something new, definitely, but I don't see a need for
new rules for it (there may be something I'm overlooking, of
course).

Because you can't move on with them on the stack, and this is quite definitely
a "move on NOW" spell.

Since there's nothing in the existing rules about ending a turn partway
through, I would think it virtually guaranteed that there is about to be a
new section dealing with this. (Particularly since most of the text on the
spell is -reminder- text, but does not refer to any current rules...)
