Hi,

I need advice when making upgrades to my current gear. What should i take into account when making changes for example more powerful GPU & CPU. Could you give me suggestions?

My current gear:

Mother:
GA-Z170-GAMING K3-EU, LGA1151, Intel Z170, DDR4,

CPU
Skylake i5-6600K, LGA1151, 3,5GHz, 6MB, Tray

GPU
Palit GeForce GTX 1060 Dual, 6GB GDDR5

CPU Cooler
Noctua NH-D9L (LGA 115x/2011, AMD AMx

Power supply
650W, VS650, ATX

Memory
Kingston 8GB(2x4GB) HyperX Fury DDR4 2666 MHz, CL15

SSD Disk
250GB 850 EVO SSD SATA III, 540/520 M

What I´m planning
-RTX 2080
-i9 9900k
-(already bought new motherboard Z390-F Rog Strix)
-(already bought memory from 8 GB --> 16 GB )

Should i update my power supply & CPU cooler when i buy i9 & RTX2080?
Something else i should take into account?
I appreciate your advice in advance thank you!

Solution
You should upgrade the PSU, the VS series are very poor as far as quality and the 9900K/ RTX 2080 draws much more power then your current system.

I would suggest a good quality 750W unit such as the Seasonic Focus Gold.

what wildcard said.

No way I would let a VS power a new "gaming" rig.

-(already bought memory from 8 GB --> 16 GB )

So you bought a new set of 2x4 GB 2666 mhz of the same ram?

G.SKill Flare X DDR4 RAM 16 GB
  • 2x 8 GB DIMM, 2400 MHz
  • CL15 timing, 1.2/1.35 V
  • Designed for AMD Ryzen
This is what i bought. I sold my old ones.

Thank you so much. I did look into that model and it seems pretty decent price and its pretty available in my country. Great!
