Time to upgrade ram? And xmp issues

I've recently upgraded my cpu, mobo and gpu towards the following:

Intel Core i7-8086K Limited Ed Processor
MSI Z370 Tomahawk, Socket-1151 MOBO
MSI GeForce RTX 2080 GAMING X TRIO

And I've noticed a lot of stuttering issues on many games I've been trying to play so I'm wondering if my ram is the culprit? I've got the following:

Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (4x4GB) / 2800MHz / DDR4 / CL16 / CMD16GX4M4A2800C16" released 2014-08-14

Now it only runs at 2100 to the best of my knowledge and I've tried XMP at both profile 1 and 2 in bios. And I've just ran into errors and crashes before or upon windows boot as a result. I've tried several checks for bad ram too and it's all been good.

So my main question is should I upgrade my ram to 16GB @ DDR4-3600 and see that solve my issues? Or stick with the current ram and manually try to increase the speed? So far I've been cautious of that as to not break it as I've never done this sort of thing before.

My complete specs:

Corsair DOMINATOR Platinum 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2800

Corsair Platinum 860W ATX12V / EPS12V (Modular PSU)
AOC g2460Pg 24" Full HD / 1ms / DP / 144Hz / 3 x USB / G-Sync
Windows 10 64-bit.

And yeah, I got the card to game @ 1080p 144hz with gsync. But so far bad luck.

Update the BIOS as a newer BIOS version should help with memory compatibility/speed. Once it's updated then try the XMP profiles again.

And no don't bother getting faster memory, it won't improve your gaming (1-2 FPS) to justify the massive price increase.

Yeah, I tried that myself and the issue persisted. The latest bios version did add another XMP profile, so there's a 1 and 2 now. Neither of them works. IIRC one brings it up to advertised speed and the other one further overclocks it.

So to confirm, the 16GB (4 x 4GB) @ 2100mhz speed does not cause a bottleneck for my PC when put together with other specs?

Was that a 4x4gb kit or did you buy two 2x4gb kits?

The single kit is tested to work together so that wouldn't be a issue but if you bought a 2x4gb kit, then another kit there is a chance that the kits won't work correctly together and that could cause that stuttering but also the incompatibility with the XMP profile.

For Coffeelake at a minimum you want the memory to run at 2666mhz or faster so you did buy the correct kit for your system.

I just noticed you have the RTX 2080, do you have the newest drivers up to date? Is Gsync enabled on both the GPU and monitor? Gsync should help with any stuttering your having. Also since the RTX cards are new they have been having driver/performance issue so this may be software related over your hardware.

Yeah, yet I've been unable to run it above the 2100 speed sadly. Reason I'm wondering if it's causing a bottleneck.

I've enabled gsync on the Nvidia settings panel. I assume this enables it for both the GPU and monitor as it detects it there. I've also got the latest driver for my GPU too. Yeah, I also assumed that's what is causing the issues I've been having but would am wondering whether or not the ram is the culprit considering no XMP.

I doubt it causing those issues for a Intel system as memory speeds really make no difference. Now if it was a AMD Ryzen, well that's another story as going from 2133 to 3200 can make nearly a 20 FPS difference.

Go into you monitors settings and make sure Gsync is enabled. I've never used Gsync however I do use Freesync and for it to work it has to be enabled via the Randeon Settings and turned on via the monitors settings.

When did this stuttering start to happen? When you built the system did you do a clean install of Windows 10 and drivers? Another reason for stuttering could be temps but with the newer parts I doubt that's a issue, anyways both CPU & GPU should stay under 80C during gaming.

So there has been no changes in terms of specs. The temperature is fine too from what I've been monitoring. Didn't cheap out on cooling and have good airflow inside desktop due to friend helping out with the cabling who's way better than me at it, haha.

Did you have a different GPU from the RTX 2080?

Had a gtx 980 earlier but I made sure to use Display Driver Uninstaller before changing GPU. From there I made sure to do an advanced NVIDIA reinstall where I wiped all old drivers too.

I tried to reflash my bios and xmp error still remains. I get boot error saying HECI is disabled whenever I enable the XMP. When I check how to manually set the ram values I can't really find a voltage setting and changing just the Mhz freezes the bios entirely.

I'm guessing the old ram I have is just not compatible with the new motherboard?

Seems it could be because the ram is CL16 meaning it isn't Samsung B-Die memory and therefore giving me trouble reaching the advertised rate. From what I've managed to find on google regarding issues with XMP.

Can anyone give me the best recommended voltage, speed, etc and instructions on what to change and how? My bios looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/RbPvHHO.jpg (Not my pc specs, just general bios screen for my mobo)
