Time to upgrade?

My build:

i5-4690
8GB DDR3
GeForce 970

With the CPU how much better will Skylake i5s be? What about their i7s? What about Cannonlake?

Over the next few months I am going HTC or Oculus VR and will likely be shifting to 2 monitors instead of one at the same time (with the main one being 4K). Is my Haswell good enough? I might be running a 2nd GPU if I find I'm not getting enough FPS.

Your CPU is strong and you should stick with it. 8GB of RAM is also perfectly acceptable.

I suggest looking into either the GTX 1070 or 1080 as a replacement to your 970, for when you begin to run more than one display.

Agree....1070 good upgrade. Won't do 4k anywhere near max settings, but will be OK. The 1080 even better of course and really is the 4K card until we see a 1080ti (Titan is just too overpriced imo).
