Hey friendly computer people,

Kindly hoping to get some tips on on improving the speed on my 10 year old laptop (Lenovo W530) running Win 81. So far I've:

- swapped HD for an SSD
- doubled RAM (32GB)
- new thermal paste on cpu
- cleaned out fans

6 months later it's back to chugging again; there's noticeable lag when doing anything.

My next thought is to do a fresh install with Tiny10 / Tiny11. Considering Linux too but I cannot really afford the time to deal with issues (drivers, compatibility, etc). This is my main (and only) computer, would love to get something newer (even if refurb) but simply can't afford it. Some of the keycaps have started coming off but other than that it still runs fine, so I am hoping I can get more use out of it, not that I have much option. I offer that so as to pre-empt anyone who simply tells me to get a new computer.

What would you do please?

Thank you very much

What you've done is about it, regarding hardware.

Tiny10 or Tiny 11....No.
They provide no real OS performance benefit, and cut out many features that are really needed.

Linux, or leave it as is.

Of course, we out here have no idea of the hardware in this system.

Thank you for the reply, @USAFRet . My thought with Tiny was a) fresh install of anything is better b) better to have security updates, etc. But you made me realize that maybe I need to consider a fresh install of Tiny8.1.
