I need some advice on selecting a new graphics card for my PC. I'm looking to play games on Ultra settings with high framerates. Currently, I'm looking to buy one for a maximum price of £550 ($800) but I am no expert and I certainly do not want to spend a huge amount of money on something which may not be compatible with my system or a graphics card which may be too powerful.
I've been taking a look at the GeForce GTX 980TI and from what I've heard that is a beast graphics card, but what do I know. 😛

If you think I may need to upgrade any other parts, feel free to say.

Thanks

Solution
the 980 & 980 ti are vastly overpriced for the performance they offer over the 970 & 390 mate.
In all honesty with a 500w psu ( & corsair dont make a 500w gold rated model as far as Im aware) the 970 is whre youre going to be looking without replacing that aswell.

First you are going to need to find out the exact make and model of the power supply

For a gtx 980 ti you need a good 650w unit

tier 1 or 2 model from this list:

500 watt might not have the amperage required for the 980ti, it requires 42 amps I believe on a 600w or greater power supply, most 500w are below 40 amps. Are you gaming at 1080p or higher like 1440p or 2160p? If you're still @ 1080p you could get a gtx960 but a 500w psu isn't enough for higher end cards.

Thanks for the replies.
From the specs of my monitor (which I forgot to include, now in the main post) I can only get 1080p so getting the 980TI may not be worth it as my monitor won't display the 1440p or higher resolutions. I may look into buying a 4K monitor sometime in the future to further upgrade my system.
