Tired of Not Getting First on Dps Build

Yeah so I'm tired of dealing with this POS computer, so I have to build another. I'm currently running a x800pro, 2x512kb high-end corsair memory, Raidmax RX-520XP, some asus mobo....

So here is my build:
MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD4P LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

GPU: EVGA 01G-P3-1181-AR GeForce GTX 285 Superclocked Edition 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Supported Video Card

CPU: Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601920

MEM: OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ3P1600LV6GK

TOTAL: $979.96

I already have a 250 gb HD and a 74gb raptor that I will be using for the time being.

Will the 520w PSU be enough? And I currently have a thermaltake tsunami dream case, is it large enough?

How is this build? I'm willing to spend more if I will see a decent performance increase.

The PSU would be enough, but I wouldn't trust Raidmax. PSUs are something that a lot of people overlook.

I'd grab a Corsair, PC Power & Cooling, or Seasonic brand power supply. Quality is something you want to look for when it comes to powering your expensive rig.

I'm not a fan of the GTX285s, I'd do dual 4870s/GTX260s or a 4890 Atomic Edition from Sapphire. Up to you, though.

You will also want to grab an aftermarket CPU cooler if you don't have one already, for OCing.

No the 2GB version is not worth it. If you are going to spend that much money you might as well get 2 4870's, it will do much better than that GTX 285.

The Corsair 850tx is a good psu.

save the cash on the 285 and get a 4890, they perform just as well in under 60fps occasions, over that it doesn't matter.

and chances are the 4890 is gonna stay later than the GTX 285 so you can CF later if it's not enough.

I understand what you guys are saying, but I really didn't have a good experience with this x800pro and I want to step away from ATI. I will eventually be stepping up to another gtx 285 when I go from my 22 inch samsung at 1680 to a 24 inch at 1920.

Im guessing that raids mean wow? do you really think you need an i7? you could severely lower the price of this build by going with one of amds new II phenom chips and there won't be much difference other then a few hundred dollars in your pocket 😗

If you don't want ATI, go for the Nvidia equivalent, the GTX 260 is the 4870 equivalent, the GTX 275 is the 4890 equivalent. Either one of those cards are better buys than the GTX 285. I think I would get two of this GTX 260: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127426 It will give you performance close to a GTX 275 due to its factory overclock.

2 GTX 285's is overkill for a 1920x1200 monitor. That GTX 260 will get you easily 60FPS in WoW on your current monitor.

WoW is more CPU based than most games out there now. The i7 will have a noticeable increase in fps over a C2D of equiv clocks. You guys would know if you had all the settings maxed in a crowded area 😛

That said, if you're stuck on nvidia, the GTX 285 or 280 is best (though the 260 will probably allow you to max everything save for the shadows dial). I don't think anyone here realizes this, so I'm gunna bold it for them, just to be sure you all notice:

WOW DOESN'T SUPPORT CF/SLI.

Thought I could help out here, as I recently built a comp. I7 920 proccessor, 4670 graphics, and I max all settings with a min of 30 fps in all areas except dalaran, which I get 15 fps, any half way decent card is going to make a very playable experience for you
