Okay I have a ThermalRight XP-90 heatsink with a Vantec Tornado 92mm. But I'm tired of the noise. So any suggestions on a nice quiet fan that will fit on the heatsink and cool a Pentium 4 3.0E decently? I'm not OC but I didn't see a non-OC cooler and heatsink forum =)

Fidgeter

I really dont want to deal with water cooling. I just want to remove that noise coolermaster piece of s... and install a huge sink instead.

Can you please provide specific models ?

You could use a sythe ninja....and if you get your case airflow (via inake and exhaust) you culd get a slight airflow through the cooler....and you should be fine.

Looking good!

so all I need now is some decent airflow in my case? What’s the best way to achieve a healthy functional airflow? A chassis fan blowing air into the case in the front and one blowing air out in the back?

Well that prescott you should start with two high speed 120's in and two slightly slower two 120's out. That way you will save some noise with the CPU...  Don't forget a Top and Side blowhole, these can be just 80mm's

Without proper air flow, YES! But that is a lot of inches sq. of area to disperse, so you could manage if you got the space. I imagine fitting would be a prob on some configs.
Thermaltake makes pretty quiet orb II for around $40 with a 120mm quiet fan that cools and looks better than stock.

Alright enough exaggeratiion...lol

Do this...have two smaller quieter 80mm fans comming into your case. THEN have one giant 1200 60+cfm fan blowing out right behind your HSF.
SEAL OFF YOUR CASE!
Find those little screw holes and close them. Tape over them and make sure the ONLY place the air in your case is leaving is through your 120mm fan in the back and your PSU fan.

This means all air in your case MUST go over, in, and around your HSF in order to leave. It will create a windtunnel with the HSF through it.

If you dont OC the cpu....you should be fine with this....if nothing else strap a low noise 120mm fan to the Sythe ninja....

Seriously, tho, Make sure the 120mm strapped to the scythe is an solid aluminum fan, to prevent melting.

lol, jokes are one thing but you are going to scare the hell out of this guy....

play nice rich....threaten his life, but dont give substandrd advice.

I am playing nice, 😀 How much doeth that weigh?!? 8O It looks top heavy... **kicks dirt** I mean the 6 layer boards can handle pressure up to 40lbs, not that that is anywhere near that, but moving your rig to a LAN or just a move from apt, I would feel urged to have to disconnect that sinc, as to not impede unnecessary g-force upon my board... :? I also bet it don't cool worth a shiite fanless on a Prescott, unless you like throttling your CPU down because your running 70C at 50% load... or you have 4 case fans anyway, and that still ain't fanless, what is one more???
But you are right, put a 120mm fan (even if only plastique) [/shrugs] on that big boy, and you got a f'ng big cooler that should handle anything...minus uber o/c's of course...Prescott...  but there are 4 sides, could I attach 4 120's!!! I like it already!!! 8)
mind you it has to fit in tight spaces, some are tighter than others, git my drift... 😳

Basically, I feel that is either for the pro's who know what it is and that it is not for fanless cooling at all, who wish to get all they can out of air  by using 4 fans on that biatch...
or it is for novices to try and by for quiet fanless cooling, and the thing wont run at stock speed!!! :!: :?:  😳 :? 🙁 :x   I am gonna kill PickXX for recomending this recycled case of beer can to me!!!

But then again, I have been wrong before, well, at least I thought I was... 8)

Alright its not PERFECT as a fanless heatsink...but with the right windunnel you can cool. they used an pen bench where as in a case you could control the flow of air trough it and it woudl cool MUCH better.

2ndly with a 7v fan 28cfm fan its a 40c load....which is VERY good....and SILENT

(disclaimer its a p4c not p4E)

So the temps would be around 50load which is still good for a p4e....with the right windtunnel effect you could get 30cfm without a fan...EASILY.

ALSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you can't put 4 fans on it...you can only fit 2. The clips wont hold 4 fans. and if you had 4 fans they would counteract eachother so much they woudln't work....even if 4 fans were only blowing 2 directions.

This isn't nice...lol,i swear to you....if you build a prpoer rig and take the time to set it your case up properly it will work fanless....

two options....2 120mm case fans (60+cfm each) and proper wind tunnel
OR
2 silent 30cfm silent case fans and another one to attach to the HSF.

4 fans at 30db each = 36db witch can be a little loud depending on ambiant noise

I dont know how to add decibles, but the 120db my speakers put out surely overrides the computer

there's no need to get another case or another CPU heatsink;

just get a 92mm Papst or Panaflo which is rated at 30-35dBA and you'll be fine.

We're talking about silencing the computer, not drowning out the computer noise with speakers which might give you hearing loss.

As for fans:
Papst? Pretty good, but expensive and iffy.
Panaflo? Depending on the model, pretty good too.
XP-90 is a good model, and don't think about going fanless by shelling out for a Ninja; you're using P4 3.0E. Just slap on a Nexus or Panaflo on a Fanmate and you'll be good to go. Just watch for temperatures so you won't get your fan speed too low to dissipate heat generated by it.
