Tis the season - Modern Warfare 2

Well, somebody just bought me COD4 Modern Warfare 2 but I'm not sure my system will handle it.

My processor and memory should be fine but I have an ASUS board with on-board Radeon video. It runs my older games like HL2, Doom3 etc great but I'm sure the newer games need a bit more.

I'm not a huge gamer but I would like to play this one. Can anyone recommend a low-cost card that will allow me to play this on my system with average settings? The minimum is listed as "Geforce 6600GT / ATI Radeon 1600XT or better" but that seems really weak. (The onboard card that I have now should be faster than those but it's choppy on the Modern Warfare 1 demo that I downloaded.) Think I'll need to do better than that.

I would ask what your Power supply specs are to recommend something.

COD4 and MW2 use the same engine, so it would play pretty much the same.

A 4670 would probably be a nice cheap card to get it running pretty well. A 5750 would be MUCH better, but we have to check your PSU.

MW2 is a fun game. The multiplayer kind of dissapointed me a bit because there are no dedicated servers, but I was able to get the game for $30 at best buy because a flier missprint . What makes this game is the campain (about 6 hours of play). And the Special Ops missions (UBER FUN!).

thanks for the replies. I have a 450W power supply.

I've installed it and it is pretty choppy. I'll need to upgrade for it to play smoothly.

do you have the specs of your 450W PSU, you may have several video options depending on what the specs are.

Anyway, I'm glad that you asked about the power supply because it's actually smaller than I thought. I forgot that I had to replace it 6 or 7 months ago with a smaller one.

As for the monitor, I have a 24" Samsung 245 BW. Max resolution is 1900x1200 but I'm not looking to get that high in the game. ...although it sure would be nice.

I'm setting it up right now. Just need to figure out how to enable the Crossfire support to take advantage of both chipsets....

Why would you even crossfire two bad cards? two wrongs don't make a right.

If I were you I'd sell that PSU, and both of those 4670's, then buy a quality PSU and a 5770

I think you are refering to the Hybrid Crossfire. You can not use the onboard video in crossfire with anthing other than a 3450 or 3570 card. It is only designed to be used in hybrid mode with the lowend cards. Just turn off the onboard and use the card.

It's only 3450 & 3470, not 3570.
A single 3650 blasts a 3300+Sideport/3470 setup, a 4670 blasts that.
